Barely salty. Suspicious.

Oh, you came here on purpose? Bold. This is rock salt, one ion at a time. Every sodium is surrounded by six chlorides, and frankly, it's fine with that. Drag it around if you must. Then add water and watch it fall apart, just like your weekend plans.

The original. Accept no substitutes.

Keep It Neutral

Ions are falling. Catch them. Keep the charge balanced, which should be easy for someone as emotionally stable as you. Get three ahead on either side and the crystal shatters, along with whatever was left of your dignity. Mouse, finger, or arrow keys. P or Space to pause. We're not picky. We're salty.

Think you can grow a crystal?
  • Slide the crystal under falling ions.
  • Alternate purple Na⁺ and green Cl⁻.
  • Watch the meter. Three off-balance and it's over.
  • Back to perfectly neutral earns a sparkle. You're welcome.

It's two ions. You'll be fine. Probably.

    Road Salt Simulator

It's an Edmonton sidewalk in January. Ice keeps creeping back, people keep walking on it, and the temperature keeps dropping because of course it does. Drag to spread salt. Rock salt gives up below about −10 °C. Calcium chloride keeps going to about −30 °C, but you only get one bag, so maybe don't waste it on a nice day. Five slips and the city calls you.

Grab a shovel. Well, a bag.

Keep the sidewalk clear for as long as you can. Spoiler: winter wins.
